At Blue Marble Capital Management Limited we are committed to walking the walk. As a corporation and as individuals we follow the principles below to ensure we are part of the solution. Our finding is that it is not too hard to make the choices that will help ensure a better society for the future.

Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse

Pretty simple stuff but you would be surprised how many people talk about this but do not follow it. We recycle every piece of paper and plastic that can be accommodated by our local recycling centres. Printer cartridges are from HP and are sent back to their recycling centres when used up. Whenever we look at a new vendor we look at how they approach business and whether we can recycle their products.

We use things longer until they are completely worn out or just not able to do the job they were intended for any longer. Before we purchase anything we take a considered approach as to whether we need it at all in the first place.

Distributed Offices

We use a distributed office system with a small head office and employees may work from their homes and visit clients at their homes, offices, or locations that suit them. Office meetings are held at local coffee establishments or at local hotel conference rooms. This does two things. First, it saves energy and second it saves costs. We find there is a third benefit. Employees do not spend time in often useless and time consuming meetings. We get more done.

Teleconferencing

We use teleconferencing when we need to have a meeting of all employees. With the technology that is available there is no reason why this should not be used more.

Electronic Communication

We are heavy users of and believers in electronic communications. We prefer to get documents in PDF or Word format instead of paper form. We are constantly striving to move towards a paperless office as much as can be done within the confines of regulation.

E-Waste, Paper, and Electronics

We send any e-waste to approved recyclers, we only use paper that comes from a producer that is certified under the Forestry Stewardship Council and or Rainforest Alliance and that has at least 20% post consumer recycled fibre in it. Our preference is to use Energy Star electronics from producers that have an end-of-life recycling program in place for their products.

Vehicles and Travel

Travel is limited to an as needed basis and the least carbon intensive method is preferred. That will usually be a personal vehicle. We encourage employees to limit trips as much as possible. All employees are strongly encouraged to choose vehicles with a minimum combined city/mileage rating of at least 25 MPG.

Carbon Footprint, Monitoring and Offsetting

At the end of each year we estimate our Carbon Footprint, personal and business, and purchase Carbon Offsets in an amount sufficient to produce carbon neutrality of operations.
